1We visited Papanasam Labor Welfare Association (PLWA) Higher Secondary School @ Vickramasingapuram, Tirunelveli District. The facilities of the school were impressive with the Principal of the school ably leading the school for 28 years . The overall achievement of the school both in academics and sports related achievements were commendable. We are looking foward to sponsoring some well deserved students in this school from this academic year given the progressive track record of the school.

2Alpha Primary and Nursery school, Velachery is a part of the chennai project. We have been sponsoring an average of 15 students every year.

With most students hailing from a background where their parents are not literate, the Principal Mr.Kamalakannan has done an exemplary job in instilling some core values and discipline in the students. We were able to witness some of the best practices adopted by the school. Additionally, it was impressive to see the Principal having taken additional efforts in making the students communicate flawless in English. Some of the eager beavers of Class V showed a lot of zeal in communicating and answering our questions confidently in English.

3Our Visit to Annai College in Kumbakonam was a classic example of ‘Man Proposes, God disposes’. While the progress and the response has not been satisfactory from the college over the last few years, we wanted to seek more participation and progress from the college and the principal failing which we wanted to explore alternate options. However, we had to alter our decision and went ahead to support the college for a worthy student called Manikandan. Coming from a family with 4 sisters and his parents, Manikandan lives in a one room house in a village, 25 Kms off Kumbakonam. As cliched as it sounds, Manikandan studied and completed his schooling using the temple resources of light and electricity. He managed to score 942 marks in his 12th exams and approached the Principal of Annai College seeking admission. His parents could ill-afford the college fees and the commuting expenses from his home to college. The principal offered him admission seeing the young boy’s grit and determination. The Principal gave him admission on Aug 9th and we met him on Aug13th. We are sponsoring him for his three year Hotel Management B.Sc program and are also paying his bus fees. Total comes to around Rs.18k (USD 350) per year. The Principal called him to introduce him to us and it was heart wrenching to see the boy trembling trying to make a conversation with us. But we were happy that we were sponsoring a worthy and deserving individual.
